Tea Ceremony Experience in Perth (Perth, Western Australia)

20260310

On March 10, 2026, we held a workshop titled “Tea Ceremony Experience” in Perth, Western Australia.

The venue was JECCWA(Japan Education and Cultural Centre of Western Australia), a hub for disseminating Japanese culture, featuring a tatami room and Japanese garden.

Twenty participants joined us, including those with Japanese roots, Japanese language learners, and individuals interested in Japanese culture.

Though early autumn on the calendar, the region remained hot, so we encouraged participants to wear yukata. We also provided yukata rentals for those without their own.

Participants were divided into two groups of ten. In the tatami room, we demonstrated tea ceremony with authentic nerikiri sweets. In the adjacent conference room, we demonstrated the ocha-bako tea ceremony style, followed by hands-on tea preparation by the participants themselves.

Participants asked questions such as, “Why do we rotate it left and right before drinking?” ,

“What temperature is the water?”, “What is the difference between the various tea certifications?” and “Please tell us about the different types of tea.”

Thank you very much to everyone who participated.
