Tea Ceremony Experience Class (Kolbe Catholic College in Perth, Western Australia)

20240905

We performed a tea ceremony for 28 third-year junior high school students and 14 first-year high school students at Kolbe Catholic College in Rockingham, south of Perth. We have been invited for three consecutive years since the year before last.

As in previous years, we set up the tea ceremony area with a glass window behind it, and had the students sit on chairs at a semicircular table in front of it.

We had a program that included a brief explanation of the tea ceremony, a demonstration, a hands-on experience making tea, and a Q&A session. However, since the two classes this time were very quiet and had no questions, we had them listen to things that the host always keeps in mind.

After returning to their class, we heard that they enjoyed the tea.

I am happy if we were able to showcase a part of Japanese culture and convey a bit of the Japanese spirit through tea.
