The Tearoom Experience

20230930

Upon cleansing their hands at the tsukubai (water basin) and entering through the nijiriguchi (crawling entrance), our guests stepped into a tranquil world. They were served matcha tea in a two-mat tea room featuring a gezadoko (lower alcove) behind the host's seat.

The chosen flower, sokobeni, a variety of hibiscus, added an elegant touch. The tea utensils, especially the lacquerware for holding matcha, were embellished with susuki (Japanese pampas grass) makie (lacquer sprinkled with gold or silver powder), capturing the essence of late September and the spirit of autumn.

In the tearoom, guests engage and delight in the experience with all their senses.
