Tea Ceremony Experience Class
(Shenton College in Perth, Western Australia)

20230323

We conducted a concise, educational tea ceremony demonstration at Shenton College in Perth, Australia. Using four tatami mats and led by Japanese language teachers, two sessions welcomed 15 and 20 Australian 10th graders, respectively, studying Japanese.

The program started with a brief video on the tea ceremony's significance, the difference between matcha and other teas, followed by a live demonstration the teacher dressed in kimono. The students, deeply intrigued by Japanese culture, keenly observed the ceremony.

A hands-on experience allowed students to prepare their own matcha tea under guidance, with some tasting matcha for the first time. This engaging event sparked great interest and was a resounding success.

Students also practiced tearoom etiquette including bowing and walking on tatami mats. The class ended with mutual expressions of gratitude. We are deeply grateful to Shenton College and all supporters for this enriching opportunity.
