Traditional Japanese Cultural Experience in Kochi
(Kochi)
On December 8th, the first day of New Year's preparations, we had the pleasure of welcoming Eigetsu, a design calligrapher from Kyoto, for a traditional Japanese cultural event. She shared various aspects of Japanese culture, including the significance of spending Winter Solstice, proper year-end cleaning, completing New Year's decorations by the 28th, and the appreciation for seasonal words. We also learned about the order of visiting graves, showing gratitude to ancestors, and the importance of mindful living. Eigetsu emphasized the incorporation of traditional Japanese culture in our daily lives to ward off misfortune and the practice of writing seasonal words for purification. We aspire to integrate these teachings for blessings during the year-end and New Year period.
