Tea Serving at the Kumejima Tsumugi Exhibition
(”Kyorakutei”, Nihonbashi-Muromach, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)

20221113

Shuji Yamamoto, an ambassador for Kumejima Tsumugi and the organizer of the 'Kumejima Tsumugi Exhibition', passionately introduced the depth of traditional techniques to the visitors. After admiring the exhibits, visitors were served matcha tea with Okinawan delicacies like Chinsuko and Hanaboru. The teabowls we selected were 'Yachimun' by Okinawan potter, Hideyoshi Kinjo.

Many visitors came dressed in Tsumugi and serving them tea led to conversation about their experiences with the tea ceremony. Some shared that they began tea ceremony because they wanted to wear Kimono. While formal tea ceremonies require wearing a Kimono, daily practice allows for any attire. The functionality of Kimono becomes evident when practicing it in western clothes.
