Tea Gathering at a Bar in Ginza(Bar Futara in Chuo, Tokyo)

20241104

In collaboration with Toshikatsu Saito, President of the Professional Advisor Association and CEO of STeam Co., Ltd., who is also a nationally certified CDA career consultant acclaimed as "Father of Ginza," we hosted a special tea gathering at a bar in Ginza, Tokyo. Designed to accommodate those who might find traditional seiza sitting challenging or are unfamiliar with tea ceremony etiquette, our chair-seated tea ceremony aimed to provide an easy introduction to traditional Japanese tea practices. We hope that this experience serves as a catalyst for participants to engage in tea ceremonies whenever they have the opportunity, allowing them to enjoy exquisite tea and sweets while exploring the diverse aspects of Japanese culture inherent in chanoyu. We briefly explained the etiquette involved, but highlighted that showing respect for the tea, sweets, utensils, tearoom, and each other is the most crucial part. Above all, we emphasized enjoying the tea is the essence of chanoyu.

For lunch, guests enjoyed a bento accompanied by sake "Houou-Biden" and the main sweet, "Inoko Mochi," culminating in a specially featured serving of thick matcha tea. The dry sweets provided included fuyaki senbei (rice crackers) with an Oribe pattern and wasanbon sugar sweets shaped like real ginkgo nuts. After serving thin matcha tea, each participant was given a warmed tea bowl, into which they scooped matcha with a chashaku (tea scoop). With a small amount of hot water poured from the kettle, each guest prepared their own tea by whisking it themselves, and then savoring the tea they made.
